| "He that is without Zin among you , let him cast the first stone" This grape is known in Europe as Primitivo, and is considered one of the oldest varieties cultivated by man. It is believed to have been first grown in northernmost ancient Greece and Macedonia (what is now modern Bulgaria). In Italy, Benedictine monks named this grape Primitivo for its precociousness, as it would ripen much earlier than other varieties. The color is deep red to almost black, while the flavor is spicy yet fruity, reminiscent of dark cherries, pomegranate or ripe berry. Zinfandel is a bold and high alcohol wine with assertive flavors to stand up to spicy and grilled foods, making a great full-bodied seasonal wine. |
